Some of us do. Some of us do not. For about two years, I only did VERY minor things myself for a couple of reasons:

1. I wasn't comfortable taking the car apart.

2. I didn't have a garage and at least the minimum required tools.

Most people are very intimidated by the idea of repairing their cars themselves. They see the automobile as some mystical being who can only be tamed and treated by the most skilled of shamans. Some people try something minor, and when it turns out to be more difficult than they first thought (usually does), they abandon the idea forever.

I have progressively done more and more complicated things on my car and now I feel that very few repairs are beyond my ability.

Overall, I think that the members of this group are more adventurous than most when it comes to repairing their cars themselves. I have a friend who won't even replace the battery in his Legend - he pays someone to do it.
