The 4EAT transmission is a complicated unit.
It is much that can happen, and very difficult to say what the problem is.

The sound is a bad indication.
Start to checking the oil. If it is black and smells burned it tells the condition of your transmission is not good.

The next step, check the oil in the trans. not only the dip stick. Let some oil out or take down the oil pan and look for metall partickels in the oil.
If there are there are some thing that brakes down. The oil tells much about the condition of the transmissin.

I have had similar problem with my car but could not hear any sound.
It seems to be the "one way clutch 3-4"

At least to thing have to work in the transmission to bring the car foward: It is the foward clutch for all four speed and the one way clutch 3-4 on the first 3 speed.
