I would place least emphasis on the clutch - not as an expert opinion - just for some reason I think the weak clutch in the Subaru is the high clutch, which means you would first see slip in 3rd to 4th gear changes (or so I believe, but then again I believe in Santa Claus too).
The TPS check is easy and only requires a VOM and a safety pin.
The band adjustment requires only a 17 and 7mm wrench (but small hands, coupled with a contortionist background couldn't hurt.
