Funny story. I changed out door speakers yesterday and they FELL out. The 6 1/2" that were there wernt attached at all.
You could use the 6 1/2" but you won't beable to secure them properly.
I installed jvc 6 1/2 that can mount in 6 3/4 too. Used self drilling screws. Worked wonderfully.

My Infinity Kappa 6 1/2" fit in the doors just fine, with use of self drilling screws.

What kind of Punch's you pick up? I'm running 2 of the old school 10" HX2 and love them.
