No when done right they are quite reliable.
Back when I was a kid in the late 80's my uncle who works for ham's well service, they fix and maintain oil wells he had a company truck that was run on propane and gas, it would start and stop on gas and use gas for extra power if and when needed but at that time propane was pennies a gallon.
