I wouldn't bother. I killed a brand new built race motor 400 miles in to the break-in on the dyno because I reused an oil cooler that I cleaned the bejesus out of. That was a nice $2000 mistake.
If there's crap in there, you'll never get it all out. Maybe on a tranny cooler, it's not as critical as it is on an oil cooler for a race motor, but why risk it. A brand new tranny cooler isn't all that expensive.
