Hijack thread

So, how often does the gasket go bad on the rear diff? Its part number 28361 on this diagram.

My diff is dripping oil. Its always got a drip of fresh oil on it, and the whole thing is just caked. Im trying to pinpoint what exactly is leaking, so I can get it fixed before something happens. I checked the oil in it, and its a little below the top hole. So how much work would be involved if I was to replace that main seal on it? Would I have to drop everything off the car? Or can I take it off and replace it while its on the car? Thanks! -Dennis
