Put two squirts of oil into the cylinder and check it again, if it goes higher = rings, if it stays about the same, it's a burnt valve, etc...
Are you checking it with all six plugs removed and the throttle wide open? You could also have a stuck ring, might try squirting some marvel mystery oil in the cylinder.
Did you sell the engine out of the claret? I wouldn't part that car out, too nice lol...
