Tom brought up the idea last evening of one last SVX mini-meet of the season and suggested we have it the weekend of the Pumpkin Carve Airport Autocross (October 27-28).
It will also be a kind of "going-away" party for his 18-year-old son, Dave, who is leaving for Navy boot camp on October 31st.
Details on the Autocross are on the
National Road Rally website; registration is open until October 25th, but they are only accepting 100 cars for each day.
Motel Options:
There are 3 chain motels in the area that are relatively inexpensive, but not "roach motel" types. (There are a few of those, too, if you're into that sort of thing.....)
The
Best Western Braddock, LaVale -- the least expensive room is $75.00 a night, with one double bed and a shower only. If you book 14 days ahead with their no-cancellation policy, it can be had for $60.00 a night and their internet-only rate is $63.75 a night. Continental breakfast is included with all rooms. A regular room (with two double beds) goes for $125.00/$100.00/$106.25 for the same options. This motel has an indoor pool, hot tub and fitness center, as well as a restaurant on-site (across the parking lot). Microwaves & mini-fridges are available in some of the rooms. It's about 15 minutes away from our house. I have stayed at this one before.
The
Red Roof Inn LaVale -- no pool, but it does have a fitness center, on-site restaurant and lots more restaurants nearby. Kids under 17 stay free! Micro-fridges in all rooms. They offer two different rooms, one with a single queen-sized bed and one with two full-sized beds. No free breakfast, just coffee. All rooms are $79.99 per night. It also is around 15 minutes from our house.
The
Days Inn Frostburg is the newest of the three. No pool, but they do have a fitness center with sauna. No on-site restaurant, but they offer free Continental Breakfast. All rooms have microwaves and fridges. Rates are $99.99 for two queen beds; $109.99 for one king with a sofabed, and suites start at $129.99. It's a little farther away, maybe 20 minutes or so from our house.
We have room for a few to crash in the house, and a big empty room above the garage (ladder access only) and a big backyard with several (comfortable) SVXi to crash in (no, make that
sleep in....) and a couple are bringing tents, I hear.
It should be a great time!
