Yes, you need to remove the instrument panel surround.

Pull out the parking light switch and mirror switch. Undo the nut accessible from the mirror switch opening and pull of the suede panel under the steering column. May also have to remove the metal panel underneath to get to the rear defrost switch etc connections.

Pop out the rear defrost and fog light switches and remove

Undo the screws top and bottom and remove the instrument cluster surround.

Undo the two screws and remove the center vent.

Remove the screws holding the climate control unit.

There are also a couple of small screws underneath the climate control unit which are accessible from the audio opening.

Remove the climate control unit.
