Have you checked the obvious, i.e. fluid level ? The simple things should be eliminated before delving deeper.
Please amplify --- "Speed levels out and there is no acceleration." I gather there is slippage as you mention over revving and that this is confined to third. Are all the other ratios performing normally ?
