5MT gear question...not same ol' 5speed stuff. NEED HELP!

Hey y'all. I'm rebuilding my 5MT with strengthened gearset before putting it into my ride. As I'm assembling the pinion shaft, the manual says to install some parts that were not on my original tranny. They were parts added to the 5MT during the 2nd half of 2002.

So, my question is, do I have to get these new parts for a new gearset to work properly? The parts are a lock ring, washer, and plate spring that were only on transmissions during the latter part of the 2002 MY build. They go underneath 1st driven gear and get sandwiched between the end of the shaft and the bottom of 1st driven gear.
