Well I actually went and worked on the 5 speed over the weekend. I managed to get the pedals physically mounted and the brake booster/master cylinder bolted up.
A few notes:
My clutch pedal still had the cable connector even though it was a hydraulic unit. This presented a problem. After mounting the pedals, when I pushed the clutch petal down, the cable mount pushed up into the wire loom. Obviously that would not do. I took the assembly back out and cut off the cable arm and then had no issues.
I have included two images. Image038 shows the cable arm and how high it protrudes when the pedal is pressed and Image039 is after I cut off the arm and smoothed the edges. The images are from my phone since I didn't have a real camera with me.
The next step is to mount the clutch master. The bolts are in place, the hole in the firewall is there. I just need to add about 2 inches to the master's rod to get it to reach the actuating lever. I quick trip to the hardware store and a few minutes with the welder will take care of that.
Other things left to do:
Install Starter
Install Rear diff and rear axles.
Mount rear shifter mount bushing on the body
Have driveshaft lengthened.
Install driveshaft
Install exhaust
Drive!
I'm getting closer
