Welcome to the club. I didn't know there was a chilton/haynes manual for the SVX. I looked for one but did not find it.
I do know there is a way to change the temperature reading to F. I think it was posted here. Try the search feature. It works well.
Windows...... How do you know the LOCK buttton works if none of the other windows work at all.......?
