Hi Tony,
I let check mine year ago at specialist and he told me it is "japaneese standard alternator" (think Mitsubishi) so it means no problem with rebuilding. He offered me price at 100 EUR if someting go wrong. Mine is still in a good shape. So try to check any local shop specializing in alternator rebuilds, it as, as for me, the cheapest way. As it is not rare alternator it sould be cheap in the UK as well.
