'94s-'97s are electronically limited to 143mph, which was Subaru's 'estimated' top speed for the SVX anyway.
As far as I know, the only recorded top speed run with an SVX was Sonar's (in Sweden). He ran 164.4mph, if I remember correctly.
Nobody else who has claimed a faster top speed has provided any kind of measurement beyond their speedometer and ability to read it.
My SVX's speedometer, checked by GPS, has proven to be very accurate, but I think that's just luck. Other cars have not proven to be as accurate. Above 110mph, the discrepancy in mine gets noticable.
Anyway, that's the straight dope, as far as I'm concerned. Sonar's is the only top-speed run measured by something other than his speedometer. And it's the only claim I trust.
