Re: Questions on how to proceed

If you replace it with another auto the axles should be fine. The Outback trans in my '92 was the same.

Re: Slipping Transmission

Most of the SVXs that are no longer on the road ended up in a junk yard because of a blown transmission. Put in a 4:44 transmission from an old Outback and motor on.

Re: Fox Exhausts

It's rare to find anything at all for the SVX in the aftermarket. That price isn't too crazy. It's still more than I payed for my entire '97.

Re: Questions on how to proceed

Wow that's nasty!
It's only two holes and it looks like a bolt will still thread in, it could be OK. You only torque the pan bolts very lightly. The gasket still surrounds the damaged holes.

Re: Questions on how to proceed

Front axles are readily available. Cardone rebuilds etc. are for sale everywhere. They are the same as several other models of Subaru.

Re: Questions on how to proceed

Are these things leaking enough to drip under the car?
I've had multiple small leaks ever since I bought my '97 in 2011. It doesn't drip so I just check fluid levels once in a while.
The axle boots...

Re: transmission dropping out of 4th

Mine is doing the same thing but right at 80 kph (50 mph). I was thinking maybe the throttle position sensor had something to do with it.

Re: ECU query

They make O2 sensor emulators/simulators. They are very cheap and fool the ECU into thinking the O2 sensors are present. Folks use them when they remove all the catalytic bits and change the exhaust...

Re: engine knock? appreciate your thoughts

Let us not allow this to fall into the bottomless pit of yet another oil discussion. It's a dead end street where nobody comes out alive.

Re: 2023 Subaru Alcyone / XT Envisioned As A BRZ-Based Coupe

Re: How to remove driveshaft without losing Tranny fluid

Personally I would leave it as is. If it's going to bug you forever, then go ahead and fix it.

Re: Polo Green Doors and 97 Grille

Oooops! I was thinking that was a lofty investment. Very nice car and it's the right color for a Ferrari.

Re: 1997 Polo w/70K miles on Cars&Bids

That's beautiful. If there is no reserve, somebody might get a really sweet deal. Even the heat shields are still intact. El cheapo tires though but that's a minor detail.
I'd take that colour over...

Re: Craigslist and other finds

Re: Tips for starting an SVX thats been sitting a few years?

Disconnect the incoming fuel line at the fuel filter and see if fuel pumps when the key is on.
