Re: SVX can't climb hills

I wouldn't try it with a variable resistor. I am skeptical that a temp unit could cause this severe of a drivability concern. I think your best option at this point is to read and analyze the scan...

Re: SVX can't climb hills

Tapani is always stealing my thunder!

I am hesitant to discuss the EGR system because I don't feel like it would help to keep throwing out possible failures. A trained eye could monitor the...

Re: SVX can't climb hills

Yes it should. Your EGR could be messing up too, that is a possibility.

Re: SVX can't climb hills

Ah I was confused.

I was patting myself on the back and congratulating myself on still being useful after all these years despite being told otherwise by a few who don't like my ideas about...

Has there been any repair work on the car? I thought that you were having the catalysts replaced? Did that get done?

Re: SVX can't climb hills

Sorry I didn't keep up with this better. I am so glad that you had that vacuum gauge on there. The slow return to normal vac is again a clear cut sign of engine breathing problems. I am glad you got...

Re: SVX can't climb hills

Not an easy way really, but unless someone stuffed something inside the system (don't laugh I have seen it) then it will be one or more of the catalysts.

If you are in a non rusty climate then...

Re: SVX can't climb hills

Anywhere that is a good source is fine. Just not one of the ones for the EGR modulator. It may not show from just revving, but I bet it will. If it doesn't show up just from revving it or idling for...

Re: SVX can't climb hills

The backfire issue makes me think it is even more an exhaust issue. I would check that asap. If you drive it like that it will mess up the engine pretty bad

Re: SVX can't climb hills

You can test for an exhaust restriction by observing engine vacuum.

See above. ^

Re: SVX can't climb hills

I'm a fan of the exhaust restriction as a possibility. Another could be the strainer on the fuel pump. I wouldn't think more than one coil would go bad at the same time. Make sure it has the correct...
