Managed to not only lock myself out but managed to break back in again. All within 50 minutes.
Here's what worked for me:
i) A coathanger bent straight and with the ends snipped off to get nice...

Whichever one has the transmission problem first gets to be the 5 speed!
Both are original UK cars not imports...
