I just encountered the same problem with my '96 LSi after starting it up after winter storage . The key would not release from the lock cylinder . However in this case the whole cylinder was loose...

Back home in Medina OH April 2012
Got home in good time Sunday , averaged 26.3 mpg on the 400 mile trip ( cruising between 70 and 80 mph ) . It was good to see old friends and to make some new ones as well , SVX'ers are such great...
