The "in-gear" wires on the tranny are a safety feature and it's not hard to wire them into the circuit. It's good to have in case you bump the shifter out of gear while in cruise or accidentally hit...

Of the 2 large tranny connectors, one is not used, the other is used for the reverse lights, cruise and neutral grounding.

I will add that I initially kept the WRX speed...

I will add that I initially kept the WRX speed sensor. I was also able to cut the grommit at the firewall to give enough wire length to reach the sensor without splicing.
