Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

So the thing that had seized up was the selector switch itself. However, the cable also got damaged in the process. Does anyone have a shifter cable or know where I can get one?

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Anyone know where I can get the selector switch (inhibitor switch?) on the tranny?

Will this work: https://parts.annapolissubaru.com/p/subaru__/SWITCH-INHIBITOR/49242446/31918AA000.html

Or...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

I guess the "torque to yield" is what has me concerned.

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Car was towed away this morning by the guy that is going to do the head gaskets. The car won't start because it is stuck in reverse. He disconnected the shift cable from the gear selector on the...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

You mean other than the corrosion build up on the rotors probably sticking to the pads? :(

If the car is in reverse and I put a fuse in the fuse slot that disables AWD, will the AWD be...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

All,

It is snowing again. My question is this. If the car is stuck in reverse, can a flat bed tow truck safely drag the car from the rear tow hooks onto the bed? I need to get this to a garage...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Thanks. These are really useful. Any idea where these cables usually seize? Is it at one of the ends or along the length. This sucker is really bound up!

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Do you have pics of the underside of that thing? I would like to see where it attaches to the shift cable.

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

That makes perfect sense. I wonder if this was added on OBD2 cars.

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

There is definitely a switch. It is one of those rectangular switches with the little metal arm that pivots on the one end attached to the rectangular housing and has a tiny button/plunger under the...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Tell me if I am getting this right.

1. The inhibitor switch is located on the side of the transmission and not near the gear selector in the car.
2. The cable connects the gear selector to a...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Is there a schematic for this thing? I would like to see if the relay is also why my car beeps randomly. I bet it is because it does seem to happen in high humidity conditions.

Still, I am...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Any idea if the OBD2 security modules are the same as OBD1?

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

When I say it won't start I mean it does absolutely nothing when I turn the key to start. No turning of the starter, no clicking noise...nothing but silence. That it why I started to suspect the...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

I got a chance to play with this a little today. I was able to get the screw out and do the emergency procedure to unlock the shifter. I was able to loosen the shifter enough to get it into...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

I have but I have been limited in what I can try due to illness and crappy weather. They are calling for 8 inches of snow today. It basically hasn't stopped precipitating since July. Worst 4+...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Nope. I don't hear anything when pressing the brake. But when I press the button on the shifter, I hear a click.

I tried wiggling the shifter while turning the key but it never tried to start. ...

Re: I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

Yes, I agree that the stiff gear selector is definitely a mechanical issue. I have read the cable can bind up and especially if the car sits. We have had a TON of rain this year so it wouldn't...

I am ready to blow this car up. Won't start now.

In addition to the likely blown head gasket, I had a code stored in the TCU. I checked the resistor and it seemed ok. I put it back in and tried to retrieve the stored code. I couldn't move the...
