Re: Subaru EG33 breaks the class speed record

Matthewmorgan, no I got this EG33 from Portland Oregon. It only had 516 miles on it, the SVX was T-Boned and totaled. I was the beneficiary of that accident.
During the installation I saw a SVX...

Re: Subaru EG33 breaks the class speed record

Steven, I have over 760 hours of run time on this EG33. I estimate that well over 70% of that time the engine has been at 4800 RPM or higher. I have never opened this engine with the exception to...

Sound of a throttled up EG33

I recently added another short EG33 video to my YouTube account. During the last 6 or 7 seconds you hear the fully throttled up Subaru clawing its way up. My wife was lead ship to get some of these...

Re: Subaru EG33 breaks the class speed record

Steven, you are correct the intake is a custom one-off that I made. The factory one stood too high and weighs about 12 pounds more. The exhaust is also my own custom build. The gearbox is a...

Re: Subaru EG33 hammers all competitors

SoCoNoHa, when I started this project, Subaru had not yet developed the EZ engine. Before selecting an engine I entered data on about 20 different possible engine candidates into a program. When I...

Re: Subaru EG33 hammers all competitors

bwb3, the ECU is also stock Subaru EG33. Much of the brain power of the ECU is unused, I don't need all the car inputs that are unnecessary in an airplane such as backup lights. BTW I have no...

Re: Subaru EG33 hammers all competitors

Blacky, the radiator is behind the seat. If you are familiar the P51 Mustang from World War II, the cooling design is a close copy of that aircraft. I did make a few aerodynamic changes for airflow...

Re: Subaru EG33 hammers all competitors

The throttle body is original EG33, you can't see it in the photo, it is on the back side of the PSRU (transmission). The black part you see is the original EG33 airflow sensor.

Re: Subaru EG33 hammers all competitors

How are classes determined?[/QUOTE]

Generally the classes are divided into Experimental (such as mine), Certified and Military. Those are further split by Fixed or Retractable landing gear, Turbo...

Subaru EG33 hammers all competitors

In past races we were blowing away our class so badly that we decided to voluntarily move up one class for the 2018 racing season. Crying and whining from a pilot in the next class started because...

Re: Subaru EG33 breaks the class speed record

Racers are free to choose any altitude that wish, most of us race at 500 to 2000 AGL.
Our EG33 is naturally aspirated and of course we lose manifold pressure (vacuum) as we go higher.
We have about...

Re: Subaru SVX EG-33 does it again !!!

Chris,
We always run an in-cockpit camera on every flight. Since you know about landing incidents I thought you may have an interest in this video of the last 60 seconds of our landing accident. ...

Re: Subaru SVX EG-33 does it again !!!

Chris, I have about a dozen YouTube videos posted. Several years ago I had a brake line failure on landing, the plane ended up in a small ditch, this video was shot shortly after repairs were made...

Re: Subaru SVX EG-33 does it again !!!

Blacky, the model is a Glasair I RG. Currently I have over 650 hours of flight time on the engine. I estimate that 75% of that time is at 4800 RPM or greater. Another 3% or 4% has been at 5100...
