Re: Another bad alternator
I've not had any problems with mine yet but I have a local rebuilder and generally for the same price as a reman he'll rebuild. However if he sees a part is a problem he'll upgrade. Maybe find a...

Re: Decisions, decisions
Thanks for the information about the water pump. That's not something one would find out except for a group like this. Granted I'm not above 5K often but don't need the flow be be less..

Re: Decisions, decisions
I truly appreciate the advice. I've used Rock Auto, and they have head bolts for less than $100 available, a complete gasket set for $250, a Gates waterpump for $50, timing belt kit (no tensioner)...

Re: Decisions, decisions
Thanks SVX95. I seem to remember you telling about the head gaskets in a previous post. So you're saying to not use a complete gasket set from Rock Auto? I thought I'd use it but with the...

Decisions, decisions
OK, could spend $400 on a used engine, add a timing belt, waterpump, valve cover gaskets (boy those are pricey) and swap out the one that is in the car then at a later date rebuild it. OR I can pull...

Re: Anyone have any ideas???
I agree with the water theory. I'm leaning toward cracked block as the water didn't "mix" with the oil. The oil on the stick is still clear like the fresh oil it was. The water must have settled...

Anyone have any ideas???
Car has been running fine. No overheating, or low on oil. Started engine yesterday and it died. Restarted fine. Drove about 3 miles, engine dies and there was smoke from the exhaust. Can smell...

Ignition coil resistance testing
Hi, I've read the spec for the primary side of the coil is 0.68-0.83 ohms. My meter only reads as low 0.0. Will not do hundredths. All the coils are testing at 3.8-4.2, WAY outside the range so I...

Re: Who's Racing Their SVX?
Thanks SVXFILES. That means that when I'm autocrossing, in first gear and manual every time I go WOT it's trying to be 50/50. That makes me happy. The rest you learn to deal with but I know the...

Re: Who's Racing Their SVX?
Thanks for the discussion on the rear bar. I've installed and removed rear bars over the years also. I can see where on the track it might be good to remove the bar but since autocross is...

Re: Who's Racing Their SVX?
Thanks Bill, I'm sorry for the inference I made about being legal. I feel the same way as you and others that responded to my post. The SVX is now H Street. I've enjoyed the events I've been to...

Re: Who's Racing Their SVX?
OK, I've looked at all the postings in this thread, as well as the mods made to the cars. I'll assume no one is running in the H street class of SCCA. If so the cars are so illegal I'd be ashamed...

Found a AVX
Found an SVX that hasn't been driven for a couple of years. The owner is willing to sell. The reason she stopped driving it is that every time she stopped at a light it would die and need to be...

Re: Engine miss and 99 outback
Thanks Blacky. The miss is VERY infrequent so getting to duplicate the conditions is difficult. Seems I'd have to drive with a coil disconnected, running on 5 cylinders and see if while sitting at a...

Re: Engine miss and 99 outback
I'm sure I could find some used ones and if that took care of the problem that would be only OK as I'd have 6 coils and not know which one(s) are bad. I hate to fix what isn't broke.
