Re: brake project teaser
Indeed.
More importantly what is the improvement? How does the hydraulic area of this caliper compare with the area of the OEM caliper? What is the ratio of caliper piston area to master cylinder...

Re: STi brakes, the brute force way!
BUMP!
Right. This is the reason that most parts are something in the range of a 5140 CR steel that is forged to shape.
That doesn't mean that a billet piece could not do the same work. On...

Re: The thingy scratching my window
The weatherstrip/trim is held in place by two push type rivets.
When disassembling remove the inner pads first. This will allow the window to be tilted inward and give a bit more space to work on...

Re: Strut Options
Exactly the reason for doing this. Not all of us are rolling in cash to burn. Some of us are also smart enough not to spend needlessly. A good alternative that works without breaking the bank is...

Re: Strut Options
You would actually had to type fewer characters and saved yourself even more effort by simply typing a 4 digit model year. :)
Is this the swap that requires bending the mounts to make it fit the...

Re: Strut Options
OK then, Impreza adapted for the rear. Model year(s)?
That still leaves the fronts.
A cartridge mod is still a good option.

Re: whistling noise
OK, so the FLAPS parts listings are wrong for the OEM alternator.
The bearings are:
Pulley end - 47x17x18
Commutator end - 23x8x14

Re: Strut Options
I think he meant a rebuild that doesn't require a third mortgage. ;-)
In general terms nearly any machine can be refurbished. These struts are no exception. I am even able/willing to do such work...

Re: Strut Options
So I made a tool to cleanly cut the end of the strut open. I took a crack at one today.
The Showa OEM is a double tube damper. Judging by the internals I suspect these could be fitted with new...

Re: Transmission cooler system for all seasons
Nice. That is exactly the kind of data I am interested in. That was from the regular sensor on the trans, correct?
Do you have a photo you would be willing to share of your Hayden cooler install?...

Re: Transmission cooler system for all seasons
That being the case I may reconsider the oil-oil exchanger. I need to figure the heat transfer.
Do you know the average operating temp of the ATF in these 4EATs?
Maybe install a temp probe and...

The used struts have arrived. At first glance this looks like it will be much easier than first suspected.

Re: Transmission cooler system for all seasons
It really comes down to flow (volume) at a given pressure.
The fluid flow can be calculated for the external components. As long as the filter exceeds the needed flow volume it won't impair the...

Re: Transmission cooler system for all seasons
Good point. The idea is unqualified at this point. The filter I have in mind is from a low pressure system. I suppose my only concern would be the bypass and it's activation pressure.
Alternately...

Re: Transmission cooler system for all seasons
Thanks. I was curious about the location. My car doesn't have it (built 12/93) so I'll go about my business of doing this cooler install.
If I did add a filter it would be a spin on for a...

Re: The thingy scratching my window
So I did the same to the rear windows yesterday. It worked in exactly the same way.
Changed out the disintegrated OEM 6x9 speakers too while in there.
