nate i agree the symptoms point to a short, but i don't understand why, i haven't messed with the electrical. i don't even know where to start in diagnosing this problem.

larger surface area = 1. better cooling 2. more filtration 3. increases your oil capacity

I didn't drain all the oil, I drained about 1/2 quart to look at it, but it looks black like normal (for my car, 1000 miles after an oil change). I can't find any traces of oil in the coolant...
