And the verdict is wiring problem. Lots of them. Sensors were ok, wiring after 20 some years gets a bit brittle it seems. So now it's running and pretty well. a few lingering problems. ...

wait....it all comes back to me now..... working in your shop...neither one of us able to get the rear drivers side spark plug out..... THAT'S the problem.....

Last time I was having starting problems the CE light was for a bad cam angle sensor...found one in a bone yard and replaced it... car started right up... Couldn't find a good crank angle sensor in...

is there any test for the crank and cam sensor? the wiring seems to be ok...I've checked them for continuity. Short of ordering new sensors... at a retail cost of about half of what the car would...

I assume you checked the flow at the fuel filter.
In 12 years of driving this car I don't think I ever HEARD the fuel pump. but then again I may not be listening. What are the symptoms...? I ask...

They wouldn't clear. Tried it twice. Get the same codes each time.
Also had the battery out while I did the replacement. about 8 hours.
The car starts...that's what is confusing me.

I pulled the Crank Sensor off a parts car.... along with a temp sensor ..
Then I pulled the cam angle sensor off my car. ...
