OBD1 scanning

I have read ( but not completely understood ) the tech articles regarding diagnostics and my `94 SVX . I`m spoiled with my pocket scanner and OBD2 cars . Am I correct that after finding the yellow socket under the dash , I will need either a SSMI cable or ( VAG ? cable ) and then connect to a PC or laptop . I would then need to download a program to interpret the information . Am I on the right track ? Thanks

I made SSM2 scanning software for SVX. Please find following website.

http://grove-design-service.com/ssm/ssm_svx_en.html

This software can monitor ECU,TCU,AirControlUnit,CruiseControlUnit and 4WS unit.

ECU's of SVX uses SSM2 protocol except cruise control unit. CC unit uses SSM1 protocol. You can find detail of SSM in the "Diagnostics and Datalogging for Subaru SVX" website if you want to know.

Re: OBD1 scanning

There's a "how to" for reading the codes with no cables, laptop or scanner. It's on the site somewhere.
I have it printed, I'll see if I can find it.

Yes, self diagnosis function is more easy to know get trouble code.

You can know the trouble code by blinking pattern of the check engine indicator.

Once you tie blue cable (it tie to body ground) into 2pin of 9pin black connector (B83). for example, if you get 2 times long blink and 3 times short blink, trouble code is 23. It means air flow sensor related trouble.

My car is in storage until the end of winter . But , as I recall , it never blinked , just came on . Or , maybe because I was not looking for a blinking pattern, I did not notice . What struck me strange , it light can go out within a few miles of going on , unlike more modern OBD2 .

Re: OBD1 scanning

The light does not blink until you do the code reading procedure. It then flashes long and short to give you the code number.

Hello svxnavyvet,

Do you have Windows PC ?

It's windows application. you can download zip file. And, extract it to any folder in your PC.

You just need to clock SelectMonitor_for_Windows.exe to run it.

Please note that you need to use SSM1 cable which uses FT232R device to communicate your SVX.

Please reply if you still have any question.

Hi,

If you have only MAC (you are running MAC OS on your PC), you need use virtual PC like a virtual box "https://www.virtualbox.org/" to run Windows.

If you have Windows 10 or 11 PC, just need extract .zip file and click .exe icon.

I will add some description how to setup application with some picture.

I'm working on Qt programming for Linux application at work now. Qt applicaiotin seems to work on MAC. I may be able to make an application for MAC in the future. However, it won't be in the near future.
