Sounds proofing for the SVX?

I've always thought, once I get all the other things sorted out (especially things that make noise like wheel bearings), it'd like to improve the sound proofing of my SVX(s).

Recently I saw a sound proofing article (about a VW) on hackaday.com which got me thinking about it again:

Has anybody improved their SVX's sound proofing (which was already better-than-average-for-the)? If so, I would like to hear about what you did and how well it worked.

Cheers,
Ian.

Re: Sounds proofing for the SVX?

I did this many, many years ago and the noise abated somewhat but it's purely subjective. I thought about doing it to the ceiling but there seems to be something up there already. According to a website that talks about the proper application of soundproofing material in a car, I used their 25% coverage rule. I'm sure it has helped but to what degree, I can't quantify. I do this to all of my vehicles.

both door panels
under seat
rear quarter panels

trunk - no
ceiling - no

I did find some petrified french fries and loose change in the process

above the rear shock mounts under parcel panel.
under the back seat.
is your hood insulation still intact?
My 97 is noticabyl quieter inside driving 80mph on interstate than any of my friends newer stuff. Even the 2018 ford my friend has is noisier.

Re: Sounds proofing for the SVX?

Thanks for the info.

I've got to get my wheel bearings done (I'm always fixing damn wheel bearings), then try some of this.

I rented a base 2017 Impreza a couple of weeks ago, and it wasn't much quieter than my least noisy SVX (which has a noticeable wheel bearing grumble).

Cheers,
Ian.
