9005 upgade;

So I have a customer who is a retired gentleman who will be driving across the country several times in the next six months.
If you are older than me you need better night lighting!
To keep it simple and reliable I opted for a 9005 upgrade with a twist.
I took the locking rings from a "spare" set of SVX high beam and replaced the low beam locking with the 9005 high beam locking rings!
Yes you still have to double O-Ring the new 9005s, but when on the road. you can replace your low beam 9005s without grinding/filing, etc.
BTW, stock "Basic 9005s" have a life expectancy of 320 hours.
SilverStar purple have a life expectancy of 200 hours.
And SilverStar Ultras ane rated to 125 hours.

Since Basic 9005s have 70% more light, thats what I went with.

Not sure I follow. Two sets of high beam bulbs on each side? What does that do to oncoming drivers? Are 9005 bulbs the HIRs?

I put a full set of HIRs (low and high beam) in my SVX and to be honest the headlights still did not impress me. I have HIRs for high beams in the STi and the difference there is very dramatic, so I figured the beam pattern was the real culprit in the SVX.

Yup, all high beam bulbs. The lens inside the low beam housing focuses the light so it doesn't bother oncoming drivers.
I've experimented with leaving my high beams on when approaching an oncoming car. With the low ride height and the focused lights nobody ever flashes me to turn down my lights.
