Windshield wiper issue
I have adjusted my wipers to stop on the stops at the bottom of the windshield like they are supposed to.
The drivers side wiper hits the pillar at the top of the windshield. And i have readjusted. I cant get it to stop hitting that pillar. I do not have it on winter setting. I dont want it on winter setting. I want to fix what is wrong! It seems no matter how much I adjust it the wiper travels too far. Any suggestions? |

I've had the same issue on both SVXi; it appears to be as common a trait as the other issues they all have.
In conditions where I'd use them on a regular basis, I switch them to winter mode; it doesn't happen in that setting for some reason. |

that the way mine was when i got it, the wipers were too long. previous owner had replaced the wipers with ones two inches bigger than stock.

Yeah, mine do it, too, and the wipers are the correct size. Once had a wiper assembly snap apart from the force of dragging out fully beyond the A-pillar and back. I don't know enough about the mechanism to imagine any sort of easy fix. Finally it seems mine are "fine tuned" so they don't hit the pillar, but they rest very hard on the stops, and occasionally I notice that on the upswing the things never seem to stop twice in the same spot.

The wiper blade size should be 20" for the passenger and 22" for the driver's side.
Always adjust wipers in "Winter" setting. For me, I just leave them in the winter setting all the time. In the summer setting they need to switch to "winter" to work, and then go back to the summer setting. Ok friends. I've pass trought that when I just bouth the car.
I decided to go on my ouw risk and disassembly the whole mechanism. I found that the drive arm from the motor assembly have two possitions: short and long. This mechanism is pressed hydraulically and seizes with time. In Winter side, the motor turns one way only and the mechanism stays in the shorter porsition. In the sumer side, the motor turns one way in ordinary wipes but turns the contrary way on the last wipe, so the drive arm switches from short position to the longer, making the blade arm to travel more distance to reach the sumer rest point. In a few words, you have to disassembly the drive arm and lossen the seize on it so it can switch positions automatically, with only the resistance of the blades friction to the windshield, when the motor changes the rotation. Be extremelly carefull: this mechanism is very complicated to understand. if you miss the original position of any of the parts inside, you may not be able to reassembly it and will have to get a new assembly from subaru. You can unmount it and send it to me to fix it. I'll send it back in perfect operative conditions and ready to be replaced. I live in Montreal. |
