Propane Conversion

I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has converted their car to propane? I searched and found a thread from 2002, but it really didn't have any information. I was looking at technocarb's kits (http://www.technocarb.com/index.php?...id=1&Itemid=80) and was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with this or other conversion kits (homemade or purchased)?

Thanks for your feedback.

I didn't even know this existed.. Don't think I'd ever do it but it's very interesting..

Considering the fuel mileage on propane and the high cost of propane I dont think its a worthwhile conversion.

just doing a quick search here in jax fl propane is over $4 per gallon and if im not mistaken mileage on propane is 20% less then on gas.

I drove a propane converted 5 ton GMC work truck for about 5 years back in the mid-late 80's. It was a 350 cu. in. and was a little lower on HP than a gas engine. In cold weather (below freezing) you had to let it warm up for at least 5-10 minutes or the propane carburator (can't remember the real term) would freeze over and the engine would stall. It took quite a while to thaw out.
With the high price of propane these days it is not economically feezable but they do produce very low emissions if that is your goal.
Also you can't drive them through tunnels or in underground garages. At least back then this was true.

No when done right they are quite reliable.
Back when I was a kid in the late 80's my uncle who works for ham's well service, they fix and maintain oil wells he had a company truck that was run on propane and gas, it would start and stop on gas and use gas for extra power if and when needed but at that time propane was pennies a gallon.
