New Aftermarket Windshield.. .

A friend (glassworker) got me an aftermarket windshield (~ $200) after finding out that my regular windshield was about $1200. I'm finally trying to put it in since I'm painting my SVX. The glass company says they cant get an acceptable rubber edging that butts up to the door just right...so I would have to get the regular windshield for $1200 cuz it comes with the right liner!

Is that our only hope? It sure seems like the aftermarket windshield would have a rubber liner that would work!

Help!?

Most people reuse the old rubber around the windshield.

They said they couldn't do that.....? Should I press that fact...I would certainly like a $200 replacement window. [I dont have any major cracks..but a lot of small pits from gravel chips and the like..making for a severe glare when driving into the sun!]

THANKS! No problem removing the old rubber..or reusing it???

:D

Mine was $950 from the dealer. Maybe there is some markup due to scarcity or age, or maybe that quote just includes shipping.

I've seen aftermarket glass installed without the original gasket. You can tell it's not stock. But it looks fine and non-SVXers probably wouldn't know...

That site doesn't have part numbers but it's under winshield, listed as dam. Just click the illistration picture button.

Ok! Now where do we buy the cheap glass?

Re: New Aftermarket Windshield.. .

Isnt the difference with the price in glass due to the fact that the cheap ones dont have the (titanium i think) coating on them that the Subaru ones do?
