Turbo options for Built EG33
I am thinking of the Garrett GT4094 w. a 1.06 hotside and .72 cold. Any feedback on this?? I think it may be the ideal for big power and decent drivability.

need to sell this stage 3 to fund it... otherwise I cannot afford to. The turbo is gonna cost $2300 alone, I don't have that kinda cash to fling around right now. plus, I would have to make my own intake manifold and buy the standalone and all that stainless tubing and bends?? Sheesh, I haven't thought about this or anything:lol:

I've been thinking about this a bit more (emphasis on "bit") since we talked. Why not use a GT35 or GT4088? The GT35 will definitely be the easiest of the bunch to "package" due to its smaller size and it should be several hundred dollars less, to boot. I've got the compressor maps for the 35 and 4088 in a single .jpg file, if I can just get the network to accept my file upload:rolleyes: -Bill |
I have seen the maps for both. they are both going to be too small for the kind of volume I want to create

How about offering a milder version that would not need as much mad fabrication? Like a FAT kit that included the stuff to actually make it work?

The GT35R is way too small for the power ##'s that are wanted by me and Tom. I was actually dead set on a GT42 series at first, but after looking at the compressor graphs (and figuring out how to convert lbs/min to CFM) the GT4094R is definitely a great choice. We will still be in a very efficient part of the turbos range even when BIG power starts being created and the 3.3liters of displacement will spool it very nicely.

Not to threadjack, but I think you can pick up a new 4094 for less than $2300. A quick check over at Full-Race yielded a price of $1800. Still a lot, but that $500 saved could help afford some slick mandrel-bent piping to attach it to a fancy manifold.
As for comparable turbos, you could look at the SP67 (not really a huge difference power-wise, but perhaps you could come across a good deal on one). |
Thanks for the other options but I am sticking with a garrett ball bearing turbo. If there was a different size suggestion, that would appreciated as well. I plan on doing this right this time around.

Well, in my opinion, it all comes down to how crazy you want to go.
I've always been a fan of a smaller, more efficient turbo. I've never been a fan of T88 Supra dyno queens. Sure they make 800-1000hp, but many of them are still running 12's in the quarter, something accomplished with a much smaller turbo. I don't know what your long-term plans are for the car in terms of power output, but the 4094R is nothing to sneeze at. It's a big turbo, and will have noticeable lag. The 4088 is still good for over 600hp, but moreover, the GT3582 could give you a better relation of power and response. It's a ball-bearing unit, 84 trim an 1.06AR and will be proper suited to a 6-cyl engine looking for over 500whp. It's not as big as the 40-series, but the response will be noticeable faster. |
