A Few ECUTune Questions...

how many people here run the 87 octane version of stage one? How much performance increase do you see? Gas mileage? What octane do you have to run to run the normal stage 1?

SilverSpear 07-05-2005 08:15 AM

Simply? It is worth it!!! go ahead..

Thank you for that amazingly smart reply, but some actual information would be nice

I can't speak from experience, but the general consensus is that there will be only a slight (if any) performance increase using the 87 octane code, and your gas mileage will remain about the same.

The normal stage I code has no requirements other than those of the SVX

Ok while looking at it, it says there are two codes the first one, which they recomend 91 ocatane, and the second spot which is optimized for 87 octane, you're saying this is not much difference?

KCROGUEDOG 07-05-2005 08:58 AM

yeah i dont have one ethier do to the 97 issue  but i sure would snatch one up in a second for the $235ish to lower the oct to 91 or 87. gas is killer here. $2.60 for the 93oct. booooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

The primary rom is for 91 octane, the same fuel required normally. It provides a performance boost. The secondary code is for 87 octane. It allows you to run the cheaper fuel without the performance and mileage loss you'd normally experience.

Basically-
Mode #1 - Increased performance (up to +30hp) using the same gas you would normally use (91+ octane).
Mode #2 - Allows you to use 87 octane (cheaper than 91 octane) without engine knocking. Small performance boost.

I believe the primary difference is that the 87 code doesn't allow the same level of ignition advance, thus minimizing the chance of spark knock when using 87 octane. You might want to check out the ECUTune web site to confirm this.
The folks I know of that are using the 87 code are using it to pull the advance back on supercharged SVXes

Here's the advantage I understand the ECUtune module gives for switching between 87 and 91 octane modes.

The base timing tables start closer to where thay should be for the two different fuel ratings. You can run 87 octane in a stock SVX, but the computer takes a while to tune the knock out. When 91 octane is used after the ECU has adjusted to the 87, performance will be degraded until the ECU slowly reprograms itself to the higher octane. The ECU is very leary of advancing timing so it does so cautiously, taking some time to reach optimal performance when the engine is back on the good stuff. The ECUtune chip provides timing tables closer to stoich for each octane rating and thus keeps the computer from tuning too far and dramatically reduces re-tuning time between octane changes.

Or so I believe. :)

Running 87 octane in an SVX without the chip is a big no no

id go 91. cause the car is ment to be driven. and brake and driven more. everyone wants more power if the pocket book can take it. im getting a jet engine in 2 days but i need some help on paying for the fuel. any takers.

yea there are a bunch of stations around here (philly area) that have 94 on pump

KCROGUEDOG 07-05-2005 08:02 PM

no thats my bad i meant 91 and 90 are the highest here for 2.60. the other 2 options are 87 (unleaded) and 89 (unleaded plus). i think unless i have found a 93 oct and its setting in the back of my head for some reason?
