quick tire question

I am goinhg to have to replace my tires soon. I haven't had the SVX long so I haven't driven it or any other AWD vehicle in the snow. I was thinking of going with Kuuhmo MX's. I haven't had a set of these tires but I have had a 3 sets of Falken Azenis. I would be going with those if they had them in stock size. On to my question. How well will the car go in snow? If I put such a high performance summer tire on it? We only have 2-3 decents snows a year.

Can't answer for the MX but I have azenis sports on my svx 17" and it was terrible in snow. Had to start out in 2nd, had almost no grip. Stopping was terrible. Very dangerous to drive on them in snow.

The MX looks like it has a tread pattern that would be a little better than the azenis in snow, but it has no sipes so it probably wouldnt be very good overall in snow.

I went with Sumitomo HTR+'s in P225/50-ZR16 92W. Great tires and resonable priced. Did very well in the snow.

Sumitomo makes excellent tires at a terrific price. When my Bridgestone's wear out, the High Perf AllSeason HTR+'s will be what I'll put on next... :)

How about Continental ContiExtremeContact. I got them and there 100 times beter then the SP5000 I had before.

I agree, the Contis are excellent, or Toyo Proxes
are great too.
The prob with the Sumitomos is they ride harsh and
dont stick that well under hard cornering.
I had a set on a car for a month before I took them off
and sold them. Constant squealing under hard cornering
(a good sign of a not so sticky tire)

I like my conti tires! :D

Earl talked a bunch of us NW SVXers into buying em. They're great in Seattle rain.

Yeah i agree. They wear veryyy slow which is so awesome. I have put about 6 k on mine and they look brand new. Also very good price...i got them for 77 a piece. Havent been able to test em out in the snow yet but cant wait! Does pretty well in the mud though ;)

Its very stable in the snow. Very little tendency to rotate uncontrollably. For acceleration and cornering in the snow, it does better than just about anything. The limitation is how quickly you can get the car to stop. Not really better than other cars.

I love my Daytona ZR's, they handle amazingly, tread pattern looks awesome, affordable, I think mine were like 90 each. But they suck terribly in snow. I have blizzaks for the winter, and they get amazing traction through anything unless its more than like 5 inches of snow. I dont think theres any tire that will perform good dry, and get good traction in the snow. Snow tires make a huge difference and you will feel much safer and confident with them on.

Just being picky but you FEEL safer in an SUV (you're not!)

You ARE safer with winter tires :D

not enough snows to worry about winter here I think the car will probably 'GO' with sumer tires. I live in a majoy city so roads generally aren't bad. I will be getting MX's
