Oil Catch Can?
From when I owned my 300ZX TT in college, I know that on most (maybe all) modern cars, manufacturers will include an oil catch can.
Since switching to Mobil 1 10W-30 my car had no leaks for several weeks but recently I noticed a little leak coming back. However, this leak only started after a very 'spirited' drive along a twisty road on the way home from work one day. Since wiping away the oil, and driving my car (like my wife would  ) I've noticed that the leak has gone away... My question is this, does the SVX have an oil catch can? Could our engines possibly 'leak' as a result of a series of high lateral g turns? What could have caused this mysterious leak? -Chike |

This is a description of an aftermarket one from Greddy for the WRX: http://www.subarustore.com/gredoilcatca.html

An oil catch can catches all the crankcase blow-by.
http://www56.homepage.villanova.edu/.../catch_can.htm I had to buy one because my car didn't come with one and I don't think the SVX's have one either.. I know when my car was fairly stock I didn't have a problem with blow-by, but when I increased boost I would notice oil around the outside of my BOV so I got a catch can and fixed that. |
For some reason, I think the seals near the top of my engine are leaky which caused oil to drip when I was carving up roads (also having 7.5 qts of oil didn't help).
I realized my engine was overfilled this am when I checked the dipstick and drained 1.5 qts, then added back new Mobil 1 until the correct mark was reached. -Chike |
