even by today's standards...
I was checking out the road and track data sheet on the new BMW 530i today when I was bored at work. it's a little better all around in performance than our cars... but not THAT much better.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...2004105926.pdf toss in a 6-speed and some wider rubber, and we're right up there with current luxo-sports cars. I dunno... I thought it seemed pretty cool :D MORE FOOD FOR THOUGHT: http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...s_data.pdf.pdf |
Definitely interesting. When you factor in an AL frame, updated brakes and such, the SVX is quite the comparable contender. Not to mention that the styling still looks brand new! I would rather have an SVX any day.

Agreed 100%! I love the styling of these cars so much! With the exception of the plastic headlights, these cars look like they just rolled off the showroom floor... :)

I would too! Does anyone know where the video can be found? I used to own a 300ZX and was dumb enough once to take it out into the snow - boy do I regret that! :D Did a 720 while moving along at 5 mph in line of traffic...

Smallcar 'clear lenses' look nice, but the '97 grill is only OK in my books - it really changes the overall front-end appearance of the car. That's one reason why I got a '96... ;)

it wasn't just a wet track, it was a soapy wet track

I agree the car looks new, styling-wise. It's 10 years old and still turns heads. just this morning I had "I dig the windows" from a tollbooth ladt, and someone asked "Is that the new Subaru?"
This thing gets more attention than my '02 Impreza ever did, even when the body style was brand new. and most of the attention my impreza got was "they make a Neon wagon?" or some such nonsense. I'd love to see the 300zx/SVX vid too. I'll hunt and see if I can find it. anyways, glad you guys don't think I'm reaching to say our cars stack up pretty well against current competition. |
I edited the first post with this linky:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...s_data.pdf.pdf to a data sheet of a bunch of luxo-sports cars including the 530i. The SVX is still on or about par with them. sometimes meeting or exceeding them, sometimes dipping just below. but always on par. most of these guys are running on premium and not getting that many more horsies per liter of diplacement, even after 10 years of refined engine technology. even with OBD-II, that's still 10 years... imagine the EG33 with AVCS :D the one thing I noticed in particular was the relative interior noise levels. these cars are supposed to be cushy, so it stands to reason they'd be engineered to be quiet inside. the SVX is as quiet or quieter, with 70db at the top of first and 67 db cruising at 70, than most of those cars. why the soapbox? I'm an enthusiast, I'm supposed to be enthusiastic :D . At least I'm not comparing it to evos and skylines. seems these cars are the current versions of where our car belongs. stock-for-stock at least. the SVX has arguably more potential than some of those cars. but that's another story for another thread. |

Mine was a Silver '90 300ZX TT. It was my college car and all my friends loved it! Luckily, I didn't need to drive it in the winter as I could take the University Bus to campus...
I sold it about 1 year after graduation. 2nd best car I've ever owned! My SVX is No. 1!!!! :D -Chike P.S. Your Z was stolen and burnt?! Quote:
