getting a new key?
i went to my dealer today and they told me that the car "no longer existed" as far as subaru was concernd, aside from copying my worn out key is there another way to get a "new" key?
|
they are full of sh*t as i just had one cut by my steelership a week ago ps i have a 93

Jeff if your old key is an original, it should have a 4 digit code on it, any locksmith can cut a new one from that code.....if you don't have the original key, the number is on the door lock on the pass. side door....
But a good dealer should be able to cut it off the VIN |
Can't speak to this particular issue, but if a Subaru service or parts rep ever displayed that attitude toward my car, I'd strive to never again darken that dealership's door.

You can buy a lock kit from subaruparts.com, which includes all of the locks and ignition with a set of keys. This is what I'll be doing, since I need two keys to get into my car and start it, and that doesn't even cover the trunk, pass door, or glove box.

the dealership i use just went online and looked it up for me after I PROVED I OWNED IT OF COURSE. they can look it up if they want to or else it is on the VIN plate if I remember correct ( in the driver door sill area)

Ty it is stamped on the original keys...and into the lock cylinder on the door lock of the passenger side door....but you have to remove the lock to read it.... |
