What is going on?!?!?!

My 1992 Subaru Legacy is pouring gas out of the airbox!!! Wont start after 9 years of trouble free driving. WTF is going on?

Gas as in petroleum?? there is no way that petrol should be leakin outta your airbox:eek: , If you have a gas (LPG) conversion it maybe a differnt story?

Budfreak 01-08-2006 12:02 AM

If you mean actual liquid gas, It could be injectors stuck open. I can't imagine what else could do that.

Ricochet 01-08-2006 02:36 AM

What the hell? That's gotta be a first.. Gas sprays into the combustion chamber, nowhere else. Take some pictures of this please!

ensteele 01-08-2006 11:02 AM

That is a scary thought. I don't have a clue what is going on. Let us know if you find out anything.

Im assuming its flooded, yeah I know its fuel injected but Ive heard it does happen. Yes there is a little gas coming out of the airbox:confused: enough to puddle on the inner fender but none on the throttle body??? Im going to pull the plugs and see if there wet.Totally reliable up until Friday Im stumped:confused:

Ricochet 01-08-2006 01:08 PM

Maybe the timing belt jumped, pushing everything out the wrong direction?

demonsvx 01-08-2006 02:16 PM

Pulled the plugs all but 1 was covered with gas, have good spark. Its starting to look like a timing belt:( Plugs looked like new after 100k though:rolleyes:

You shouldn't put a frowny face after that, you're very lucky if that's the only problem you've had in 9 years!

ensteele 01-08-2006 04:12 PM

How many miles do you have on it and when was the timing belt changed last?

demonsvx 01-08-2006 07:11 PM

193000 miles and the timing belt was changed when I bought it..............at 69000 miles, so yes its a little overdue:rolleyes: Can probaly change the timing belt in 2-3 hrs no big deal:D

Why fix it if it aint broke:D

Also check the fuel pressure regulator. Diaphram ruptures, sends fuel into vaccum lines, ends up soaking the air filter. Won't start because it's "flooded".

demonsvx 01-09-2006 07:39 PM

I look at that tomorrow thanks!!!:)
