Timing Belt

My SVX has 155k on it and it's unknown if the timing belt has ever been changed. Should I be concerned with it snapping or not? I have yet to hear about the belt in a EG33 ever snapping.

You don't say how long you have owned the car, how many miles you have driven it, but at 155K it is due a new timing belt in the normal run of things.

Normal replacement interval is 60K miles. If it has had a replacement at 60K, and was not in your ownership at that time so you are unaware of the replacement, then since that time it will have done more than another 60 and is now due again anyway.

If it was never changed then it is more than double the recommended mileage, and a replacement will be urgent.

If it breaks the valves and head will not be damaged because it is a non-interference design. However it will probably break or damage the plastic covers, and make the replacement job more difficult and costly.

It is more likely to jump a tooth and leave your timing all wrong, but it could break.

At your current mileage you should replace the belt and the idler pulleys and the tensioner. While it is off you should also attend to any front seal leaks [there usually is a leaky seal or two] and you should also replace the water pump. You should also consider replacing the oil pump while you are at it if you want to do a thorough job.

Good kit

I can vouch for the kit - nice quality parts. The waterpump is even a Prestone brand - made in the USA. With 150K (exactly what I had) on the odo, don't even think about replacing only the belt and the tensioner. All four of my idler pulleys were all very noisy and dry as a bone.
