changing axles on a civic

A friend needs new axles on his 95 civic that I said I'd help him with on Monday. Having never changed civic axles anything different than a subie? Idea on the axle nut size as I'm not sure what will be open on monday

Very simple swap

This is one of the easiest axle swaps know to man.

1. Remove the axle nut - I think its a 30mm or 32mm nut.
2. Remove the lower ball joint nut.
3. Give the lower suspension arm a sharp whack with a hammer near the ball joint bolt (don't strike the ball joint - you'll booger the threads). The ball joint should pop right out of its tapered hole. You should have enough clearance with just the lower ball joint removed to swing the hub away for easy axle removal.
4. Civic axles (inner CV's) aren't pinned - they are held in place with a circlip. You can usually pull them out with a good heave-ho. If they stick, look closely to the transmission casting near where the inner CV connects, you'll see a thick cast web designed to pry against with a pry bar.
5. While you're in there, replace the axle seals.

With the entire front end up on jack stands and sufficient room underneath the car to crawl around, you're looking at less than a 30 minute job.

The axle nut is 32mm. I bought a 32mm socket (fyi pretty expensive) to do this when I had a Civic, but ended up paying somebody else to do it.

Isn't that what the SVX is too? I know I have a 36 from the BRAT I think or maybe that is the SVX and then I have a slightly smaller one.

I'd love to stay away but cheapest he's been quoted was $430 to do both axles. They cost about $60 a piece.
