AUTOMOBILE Magazine JANUARY 2013
Happened to stumble upon this in the January 2013 issue of Automobile magazine.
In the UPshift section on page 92, there was the Bennett Collection from Rollingsford, NH, held on September 21-22, 2012 Car #3, listed as a "Best Buy" was a 1992 Subaru SVX. Here is what it said about this particular car: JF1CX3533NH100525 "Dark Green (teal) over gray leather. 99,600 miles. Good paint has an overall air of neglect, but will revive with TLC. Good trim. Bright wood accents (aftermarket) on the console and dash. Interior looks a bit nicer than you would expect in a twenty-year-old used car." Further remarks about this particular car from the article: "The SVX is known for its love-it -or hate-it styling, as well as its transmission problems. This one was sold with thee understanding that it has a slipping automatic gearbox, so the buyer will soon be slipping into a transmission repair shop, and the technician will be slipping into his wallet. Because of its wild styling and peculiar "window-within-a-window", some believe that the SVX will soon be a collector car. This one was dirt cheap and worth it, if only for parts." SOLD at $400.00  LINK TO THE AUCTION PAGE This collector car auction was not held in conjunction with a concours d'elegance or even enjoyed live TV coverage. This was a country auction of about 1100 items, including automobiles and had it's share of barn clear-outs. Strictly a buyer beware treasure hunt; still raising over $1 million after the dust has settled. . |

My dad went to that auction. Some of the poor cars had been stored outside for years and that was one of them. Apparently it had lots of mold and the transmission but still, $400 is not a bad deal. He had some weird cars. The white Skyline had about 680HP

Also these cars came with a Bill of Sale only. It many states it is near impossible to get a title on a car with a bill of sale only and no past registration. I bought 1 car and had to go to extreme lengths to get a title for it. There were tons of cars and most were disasters having been stored outdoors for perhaps as long as a decade without being run. The green SVX did not look too bad though. Some scratches, a flat tire and was it sunk in the mud a bit. I spoke with the fellow who bought it I think and I recall him as a fellow who tries to fix up cars and flip them. I don’t think he knew anything about SVXs. Here are some photos I took.
