O/T - What's the best for bonding rubber to metal

I have a project item I'm building for my son and I want to bond a metal piece to each side of a rubber bushing. There will be very little, if any, pulling tension, but I need it to stay secure as possible.

Anybody know what the factory does to get things like the rear tranny mount to bond rubber to metal?

The plates are molded in on mounts, etc. Weatherstrip adhesive, such as 3M part #8001 (known in the trade as gorilla snot or baby s**t) should work well, however it is yellow, so if appearance is a factor most any contact cement intended for use with rubber should work as well.

This is wonderful use of the net and warms my heart. As usual Beav has perused it and come up with the answer. Nice to have something of real value but outside the norm.

Better Idea

Here is a really good idea if you dont ever want it to come apart. Take some Duramix 40/40 from a local body shop. That stuff will hold anything trust me. They glue cars together with it!!
Good luck
