can anyone help me find out if this svx is awd or fwd

This car

I looks like the base model L x33 which in '95 is FWD i believe. but i emailed him and he claimed it was AWD. i'm not sure and just wanted to get your opinions on this, thanks

benebob 07-06-2004 06:27 PM

Not all L's are FWD. My 95 is an L and it has the "safety package" I think they called it. Basically, AWD, LSD rear and ABS.

sharky512345 07-06-2004 06:32 PM

hmmmmmm... ok, then what do you think about the car/price itself

nordique14 07-06-2004 06:46 PM

benebob is right, if it has ABS then it is AWD as no FWD drive car had factory-installed ABS. Also I think the H in the VIN number signifies an AWD transmission.

If it is an AWD L model, the good news is that is has the grey panels instead of fake wood. Plus the 95 has manual seat belts instead of the motorized belts found on earlier models. On the negative side, the L model has cloth seats ( I like the fake suede). The 95MY is ODBI (ODBII started with with the '96MY).

It does have an Optima battery and a new alternator. If the car has been well cared for (oil changes, tranny flushes, etc) then the price is not unreasonable.

AWD

Lay down on the ground behind the car, look at the rear discs, if there are axils going from the center of the disc brakes, to the rear end, or differential, it's an all wheel drive. By axils I mean a black or rusted steel rod, about 1" in diameter, about 2 feet long, going to the center of the car. The rear end, or differential, is a rounded black steel housing about 10" wide and about 2 foot long, long being from the front of the differential, by the driveshaft, to the end of the housing. Hey, not to be flip, but if it has a DRIVESHAFT, then it's an AWD.
I'm really not trying to be smart, I'm Just a little tired. No offence ment. Tom

Hate the wheels, wonder what kind of half a$$ed exhaust they put on it. Why did it need new axles? I'm thinking it has been driven hard. Aftermarket Trans cooler???? Didn't see that listed!!!

On the plus... SO LONG AS HE HAS RECEIPTS for the stuff it has had a lot done. Was the water pump done??? Most true Subie guys do this every time they do the t-belts (esp at 120k) as they are already there and it doesn't cost much more.

As for price. The way I look at a used SVX is based on this. A new tranny is at least $3k so for this one you are looking at a price of $8k for the car. Granted you may get one that'll go another 100k but it may also die within 1k. IF 8k isn't too much and aside from the scrape it is in fabulous shape I'd say 5k is reasonable. Just ask for the old wheels.:D

vin

I just now read the ad, with the Vehicle Identification Number, tomorrow, I'll run the VIN and post as to it's AWD/FWD .

SVX-FF 07-06-2004 07:03 PM

If you check the vin JF1 CX335 X SH 100182

JF1 = Passanger car
C = C class series
X = 2 door coupe
3 = 3.3L engine
3 = L model
5 = Passive restraint + air bags but it should be a 3
X = Check digit???
S = made in 1995
H = AWD w/ 4EAT tranny
100182 = 182nd made

got source from here

You can also run a free carfax and it will tell you the year and model and if fwd or awd. It is free. If you want to run it further, you have to pay or have someone who has an open account run it for you.

It does have 13 hits on it, so it may be a good idea to check out what they are.

Nothing wrong with the car. It has 13 hits but they are all clean. single owner svx from OR according to carfax... but...

Not really a single owner...

It was a lease car in OR. It came off lease, and a loan/title was made on the car in WA. Another loan/title was made in WA again and it was sold at an auction and another loan was made in OR last year and is back on sale. So 4 sales and an auction record. Stay away?

The newest NADA report for the Pacafic North West, gives this vehicle a value of $4100.00 if it's an awd, and $3500.00 if it's a fwd. Tom
ps; minus any damage, like the scrape.

you could have just netural droped it and see what spun on gravel or in the rain. lot easier.
