new to symmetrical awd

Im trying to understand the center/front differential terms we use.. so the front differential and the center differential refer to the same differential? The one located in the bottom right of this picture?

Im sorry... Im just SO new to AWD... and people seem to use front dif and center dif interchangeably and its confusing. Was hoping this pic would shed some light.

I hear ya man...it confused me too. Did you watch those vids on the subie site?

Yeah I did... the VDC seems to be the best aside from the STi's DCCD of course. so center and front is the same thing... *wipes brow"

No.

The Center diff is in the left edge of the photo, it takes power from the transmission and distributes it to the Driveshaft (to the rear diff) and to the long shaft at the bottom of that photo (to the front diff). The Front Diff is in the lower right of that photo, it takes power from that sfaft and distributes it to the front axels -> wheels.
