O/T: What's your second favorite car?
re: a recent post on feelings about our cars.
I was out in the garage, and generally feeling very pleasant about the SVX. Mind wandering (if you must know I was staring at the front fender flare), I started to think about other cars I've been emotionally tied to in the 35 years I've been driving. My favorite (after the SVX) would be a 1965 Buick Riviera. Black over black - so much different, yet so much the same as an SVX - to me anyway. Worst would have to be a (I'm embarrassed to admit I bought it) 1971 Pinto. If I was setting rules for a response it would be that reliability, miles driven, etc. didn't count, just the cars you remember akin to an old lover. |
well, i know that i am going to hear it about this one...but i like the ford explorer sport trac or the hummer
for speed, well, the Lotus, mustang saleen/cobra, how about the good ol' z28 camaro as for style...got to be the mercedes line Kelli |
next to the SVX, I'd have to put a Bugatti EB110. Not the fastest, not the prettiest, but it just stirs me.
If it could be a concept car, it would be the CERV from the early 90's Doug |
cars I've always wanted
1961 Studebaker HawkHawk

Lee - Are these cars that we must have owned, or cars that just collected drool in general?
Anyway, you owned a '65 Riviera? My opinion - the original '63 that almost got the Cadillac label, was the all time great American design. Great cockpit as well. I preferred the fixed quad headlights on the Ferrarri grill over the later clamshell hidden ones. They could "retro" that baby & I'd sign up for one sight unseen. Lowey's '53 Stud Coupe is right up there, too. I owned neither one, but would ALMOST trade the batmobile for..... Slap! Slap!.... Thanks.... I needed that. Ron. |
Re: cars I've always wanted
1970 Mercedes 280 SL
http://www.bumpertobumperinc.com/ima...0_mercedes.htm That's a nice lookin' example, svxy. Speaking of desirable Benzes, besides the '55 Gullwing that I don't think I've ever actually seen LIVE, I've always had a thing for that monster, the late '60s 600 Pullman sedan/limo. Supposedly handled like a, ummm... LONG sports car, with room for a pool table. Too much "Mission Impossible" & Barbara Bain, I guess. Sweet dreams - Ron. |

Until recently the, the only exampe of the 300 SL gullwing I had seen was in the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart. Two weeks ago tomorrow I had the distinct pleasure of seeing not 1 or 2 but 11 300SL's and convertibles being driven through a small town in Michigan. Beautiful day, beautiful cars! Don't know where they were coming from or going to but it was impressive. Todd |
The svx is my second favorite car. My 86 chevy cavalier is my favorite car.

I don't think there are any rules.
I owned both the Riveria and the Pinto. The Riveria had the engine sieze and was abandoned on a rural hiway by my sister when I was in basic training - otherwise I'd like to think I would still have it. Have thought about buying another one from time to time...but you can never go home (apologies to the original author) The pinto was traded for an AM/FM cassette player I put into a baby blue, 289, 1965 Mustang. I got the best end of that deal. The list of cars I've drooled over would make the Library of Congress start a new wing. A category I didn't consider, for a car I've not owned, and I don't think is good looking... Technical: 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Group B car - 1.8 liter, mid-engined, 500 hp, turbo AND supercharged, AWD, 2200 pounds. |
My 2nd favorite car is my second SVX, of course.
|
Dihatsu Chirade.
Just kidding. Honda Prelude, late model V-Tech. |
Would a 45' Newell motorcoach, driven and staffed by a combination of Playboy Playmates and Man Show Juggies qualify? If so, please enter that as my vote.
Sincerely, Beav p.s. If that doesn't qualify I'd like to suggest any of the following: Any Dusenberg '59 190 SL '61 - '69 XKE roadster '73 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Spyder '66 Thunderbird Convertible w/Roadster kit '31 Marmon 16 |
The SVX is also MY second favorite...my favorite would be the TRANS AM (any year, preferably 3rd or 5th gen).
For high end style, ASTON MARTIN. I definetly prefer BMW to MERCEDES. My supercar of choice would be the Lotus Esprit V8. Least favorite would have to be the NEW BEETLE. Oh how i hate that car! |
Cars that I've owned and would love to have again:
'76 Capri II 'S' (black) '90 Nissan Stanza GXE (also black) Cars that I'd give my eye teeth (well, tooth) for: '57 Studebaker Golden Hawk '67 SC Cobra 427 '74 Ferrari Dino 246 '76 Lotus Europa '78 Pinzgauer New category(s) Bikes I want back: '74 Penton 125 'Cafe Moto Cross' '74 Suzuki RL250 trials Bikes I'd like: '02 Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 '02 GasGas TXT Pro 271 <<sigh>> |
Uh...
I don't think we have room (or rather space on server for my list). Let's keep it short. Any car that was produced in limited numbers (ie, SVX, DeLorean etc). I have my eyes on the prototype of the new saab but if it become a mass production, then it becomes a mess and I probably will not like it. Lwin ps. toys, a lot of toys |
