Is there a 5 speed 4.44 transmission?

Hello all,

Lately I've been wondering about switching over to a 5 speed. The question is does a 5 speed exist with 4.44 gears? I already own a 4.44 automatic transmission and rear diff so that way all I would have to swap would be the transmission, correct?

Thanks all for your input,
Sam. L

Yeah, but they are pretty rare. IIRC, they are found in some Fox and Baja turbos?? And a few more JDM models.

Forester and Outback XT models used a 4.44 5MT

Overseas, (JDM, Europe, Australia) Impreza STI Version 3 or 4? also used a 4.44, as well as the Legacy GTB.

All are turbo transmissions with hydraulic pull clutches.

I have the JDM Legacy GTB 4.44 in my WRX, (last three digits of the tranny code are CAA if I recall correctly). While it's a great upgrade for the torque-less turbocharged 2.0 in my Impreza, I feel it may not be well suited to the broad power band and low end power of the 3.3. Unless you like spinning four tires and accelerating like a bat out of hell. 70mph in my Impreza is buzzing along at 3500 rpm. Gets there just fine, though.

Re: Is there a 5 speed 4.44 transmission?

That is an interesting note! As I said, I currently have the 4.44 automatic from a 90's legacy I believe and my rpm at 70mph is at the most 3250 rpm and it does accelerate pretty quick. Would you say that the 5mt is weaker than the automatic then? Everything I've read about the MT is that they are stronger! The whole purpose of the swap is because further down the road 4+ years I would like to turbo the SVX.

So would this work for a 1995 Svx that already has an automatic 4.44 conversion? --> http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-05-Subaru...7df979&vxp=mtr

Out of these two JDM 5 spd transmissions which would be the best to go with for the 4.44 conversion? Also would I still use the outback/legacy driveshaft?
