For those of you with a 5 speed
First off, I'm insanely jealous. :)
What I would like to know is the gearing that you all chose to use in the donor tranny, as well as what that would translate into for engine rev on the freeway. There's a 92 Teal that sat at Willowdale Subaru, neglected for 9 months with, you guessed it, a busted tranny. At the right price, this could become a project car... :) Thx all. VK |
I've got the 4:11's in mine, this is the most common Legacy/Impreza gearing, the early Turbo Legacy ran a 3:90, and some Outbacks have 4:44's(though I have yet to see one), so the easiest set to find are the 4:11's, plus replacements would be easier to locate too.
4:44 good drag car gears 4:11 good all around gears 3:90 good highway gears 3:54(SVX) good autobohn <sp?> gears:D |
Huck,
Do you know what the difference is between the Legacy and Legacy Turbo trannies, other than the gearing? Or should I stick with Legacy/Impreza gearboxes? Up to what year would the Impreza boxes bolt up and work? Oh, was there something that needed to be done to the crossmember and the engine/tranny mounts? Thanks. VK |
The Turbo Legacy's use a hydraulic clutch instead of the cable clutch, but other than that and the different gear ratio's they are the same tranny, I believe that any Legacy, Impreza, Forester Tranny will bolt up, though the newer one have extra bell housing bolt holes that aren’t necessary on the SVX.
You can read up on my install in the "Personal Lockers" under the "How To" locker, as I outlined the changes to the tranny crossmember in it. |
Huck,
Maybe I'm blind , but I can't find where it mentions the modifications to the mount or the crossmember. :) VK |
