trans compatable?

Will an auto trans from a 97 outback sport wagon bolt into my 92 ls-l? There's a guy selling a reman with papers for 300$ no rear diff though. If it bolts up ill be pumped, but how do i find the trans ratio and how hard would it be to find a matching rear diff any thoughts?

Re: trans compatable?

If you are referring to an Impreza Outback Sport Wagon transmission, than yes it will bolt in, BUT the ratio, (if stock) is 4.11 to 1 and has not been found to be very long lasting behind our bigger engines/heavier cars.
In addition to changing the rear differential, you must NOT use the weaker torque converter and trade out the front speedometer sensor. (#2)

Alright thanks I just figured it was cheap enough to look into as my trans has 180k on it and I'm going to build the spare motor I bought for it some.

Ok found a rebuilt legacy outback trans and again the guy does not know the final drive or have rear diff. Correct me if I was mis informed but I was recently told all automatic awd legacy's in the mid 90s had same final drive? Is this correct and what is nthe ratio?

Re: trans compatable?

Grab the code off of the transmission bellhousing and throw it into google. Failing that, there is a transmission chart on my Impreza site, northursalia.com, that will give you all the info for a given tranny code.

All automatic Legacy Outbacks from 1996-early 1998 had the 4.44.
Just post the trans # here and make sure it does not have a factory spin on filter on the left side.

Cool beans I'll snag it this week, freshly rebuilt 4.44 should compliment my spare low milege motor nicely, powertrain swap here I come , now just need a rear diff to gut and I'll be golden :D

Will this trans build on to mt svx?
http://www.laga.se/delinfo.aspx?delindx=47023645

How expensive is it to have a svx trans rebuild?

What is it inside that gets damaged?
Valves, slides, pump or just every thing?
